The Robotics Engineer is responsible for research, development and implementation of robotics and automation with the latest technologies in our Distribution Centres which optimize efficiencies and eliminate waste. Continually improving our existing automation is also a critical element of the role and you will collaborate with cross-functional teams and partners to resolve process or equipment engineering concerns. 

This position will provide you with the opportunity to apply your robotics, mechatronics and programming knowledge through practical hands on problem solving as well as design and development of applications and automated solutions. You will be a key member of our Project team working on large strategic initiatives, as well as continuous improvement initiatives, across all Canadian Tire Supply Chain banners. 

What you’ll do 

  • Determine project scope, objectives, benefits, feasibility and cost and time requirements 
  • Integrate software solutions for robotic applications 
  • Trouble shoot and resolve multi-dimensional problems related to design, testing, installation and modification of equipment, processes or structures 
  • Design and implement real-time software components for robotic applications 
  • Architect software systems and multi-agent interactions protocols 
  • Prototype proof of concept solutions using scripted languages 
  • Deploy and supervise continuous integration systems, software building platforms and other tools for the software engineering process 
  • Develop, document and direct software system testing, troubleshooting and verification procedures 
  • Work with vendors and consultants in developing solutions to Supply Chain requirements 
  • Work with IT in development of automated controls for accessing, backing up and monitoring changes to all automation and robotic programs and reporting systems used 
  • Work with operations and maintenance employees to transition new technology, automation and robotics ensuring effective use in the operation 
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and technology

What you’ve done 

  • Acquired a degree in mechanical, manufacturing, electrical, electronic or industrial engineering 
  • 2-5 years industry experience in researching, designing, implementing automation and robotics and proven problem solving and follow-up skills in resolving process or equipment engineering concerns 
  • Experience with Object Oriented Development languages, SQL query writing and can read, understand, modify and program PLC code 
  • Solid understanding and practical knowledge of engineering principles 
  • Working knowledge and experience in the application of Statistical Process Control as an analytical tool for process improvement and intermediate to advanced working knowledge and experience of AutoCAD 
  • Solid experience working with business requirements and selecting the appropriate automation and robotics to achieve them 
  • Demonstrated experience working in a team environment with several cross functional stakeholders 
  • Change, process and project management skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities in a large dynamic environment
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills 
  • Flexibility in work schedule to support a 7 day operation
