Roles & Responsibilities

David Aplin Group, one of Canada's Best Managed Companies, has partnered with our client to recruit a Director of Engineering, RF/LMR Systems based in Toronto, Ontario.

The Role:

Drive R&D strategies related to new technologies/products for wireless communications systems.
Build and grow a successful multi-disciplinary engineering organization, including R&D, product development, systems engineering, drafting and technical support teams.
Collaborate with executives, sales, marketing and product managers on the company's strategic direction and tactical projects.
Deliver world-class product experiences, looking for inspirations inside and outside the company.
Participate in senior management meetings and strategy sessions to help manage the company on a day to day and long-term basis.
Implement the corporate goals and sets departmental goals.
Organize teams to execute against quarterly objectives.
Align and manage cross-functional teams to drive to successful and timely product releases with an emphasis on product quality and reliability.
Drive departmental KPIs and reporting.
Develop product platforms that allow for easy customization to meet the needs of a broad spectrum of customers.
Work directly with customers on development of new products and other inquiries.
Support of corporate initiatives and procedures within the engineering department.
Establish engineering standards, processes, and best practices.
Provide support to sales, customer service, and production as needed.
Manage the R&D programs including managing government and academic contracts and grants.
Guide the engineering team in writing requirements documents, technical specifications, test plans, white papers, and patents.
Deliver influential presentations at conferences.
Participate in submission of proposals in response to large customer inquiries.

The Ideal Candidate:

MSc or Ph.D. in electrical engineering with RF design experience.
10+ years in a similar role.
Able to prioritize, and communicate resource trade-offs that best serve our customers, our company objectives, as well as team engagement.
A leader who coaches empowers, and inspires, yet drives accountability.
A collaborator who excels at giving and receiving feedback.
Exceptional listening, written, presentation and verbal communication skills.
Understanding of existing and future trends in technologies used in RF communications.
A curious and creative thinker and problem solver.
Passionate about world-class product design and user experience.
Goal oriented to meet program schedule commitments.
Able to travel worldwide.
