Eagle is currently seeking a Front-End Developer - intermediate. This is a 4 month, contract position scheduled to start in February 2017 (start date is flexible) in downtown Montreal with a strong possibility of extension.

Roles & Responsibilities

Our client in downtown Montreal is seeking a Web Developer to bring technical leadership to the implementation of web solutions that leverage HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript on both desktop and mobile browsers using the Bootstrap responsive web design framework.  Reporting to the Manager of Web Development, the incumbent will be responsible for the planning and implementation of new and improved publishing tools within the WordPress content management system (CMS) that is used across all Media web properties. The incumbent will work on a cross-functional team consisting of a project manager, product owner, graphics designer, QA team members and other web developers to deliver new and improved site functionality using the SCRUM agile development methodology. You will be a senior voice of the Web Development team, and will have daily, frequent and informal contact with our internal partners and product owners to discuss their product needs and propose solutions. As such, it is paramount that the Developer must possess strong communication skills. Responsibilities:

  • Develop quality code using various languages in keeping with the team’s coding standards for object-oriented PHP, CSS, (Bootstrap), and Javascript (jQuery);
  • Create and maintain pages in a large WordPress theme and plug-ins written in PHP 5.5;
  • Understand and implement responsive web design using CSS3 and the Bootstrap 3 responsive framework;
  • Have a high level of expertise in writing and maintaining jQuery-based JavaScript code;
  • Have a working knowledge of Git (and ideally of GitHub);
  • Engage in half-day Sprint Planning working sessions, where all members of the team meet to discuss any existing issues, how to technically approach new upcoming work and do task time/effort estimation;
  • Attend and contribute to daily morning SCRUM stand-up meetings where each team member is expected to informally verbalize the current state of tasks being worked on;
  • Use the internal JIRA bug tracking system and the HipChat messaging system to detail a proposed technical solution to a business ask, and discuss tasks / bugs with other team members;
  • Demonstrate the details of your work (at a high-level) to your team members and outside project stakeholders in regular Sprint Demo sessions;
  • Take part in regular peer code reviews with fellow development team members;
  • External Team Communications;
  • Cultivate interactive relationships with product owners, ad technology and analytics teams to continually improve understanding of overall business objectives, identify opportunities and understand how digital goals can be maximized;
  • Provide input into the effectiveness of agile development practices and processes to managers and directors;
  • Monitor overall site stability and performance goals, identifying areas of concern to be examined or escalated upon as needed;

Required skills: 

  • 5 years of experience with HTML;
  • 3 years of experience with Javascript, Php, CSS;
  • 2 years of experience with Bootstrap;
  • 5 years of BAAN.
