Detailed job description
The vacant position is the Hydraulic Proposal Engineer in the Bid Management Department. This department is responsible for preparing technical and commercial tenders for complex turnkey hydropower projects usually following a customer’s call for tenders. The proposal hydraulic engineer plays a key role within the team with the responsibility to ensure that the hydraulic part of the technical aspect of the bid is complete.
The individual tasks will depend on the candidate and will include the following for each of the assigned bids:
Review customer specifications / turbine drawings and plant / group requirements;
Work closely with the hydraulic engineering department to prepare the preliminary wheel design, CFD work for submission and model / hydraulic engineering test estimates for contract performance;
Using hydraulic tools, select an existing turbine reference model and make corrections based on specific project requirements;
Establish the hydraulic characteristics and communicate the information to mechanical submissive turbine engineers and alternator group engineers;
For turbine performance enhancement projects, assess the need to replace or modify existing components in the hydraulic passages;
Recommend turbine performance guarantee levels to be included in the bid;
Perform transient analyzes;
Complete the internal water risk assessment process, including obtaining management approvals (local and group);
Drafting of the hydraulic proposal, and preparation of the customer’s performance charts and data sheets;
Prepare a list of exceptions to be included in the submission;
Conduct studies on turbine replacement and recommend hydraulic improvements.
The ideal candidate is a person who understands the field of the hydroelectric turbine and who can influence the members of the proposal team to generate the best overall technical solution in hydraulic turbine for the customer.
Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, with a specialization in fluid dynamics, an asset;
Minimum five (5) years experience in hydraulic turbine design, wheel design or CFD for turbines;
Knowledge of the technical aspects of hydroelectric equipment;
Strong analytical skills;
Capable of handling multiple complex tasks on a daily basis
Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in a multi-partner environment;
Strong computer skills, including the MS Office suite;
Bilingualism – French and English;
Knowledge of Spanish an asset;
Available for occasional trips.
Having the legal status to work in Canada is required.
