The open position is for a hydraulic layout engineer in the proposal group. This group is responsible to prepare technical and commercial proposals for large and complex turnkey hydro power plant projects generally in response to a client Request for Proposals. The hydraulic layout engineer is a key role within this team and has the overall responsibility to ensure that our hydraulic turbine layout/technical proposal is complete.

The individual duties will depend upon the successful candidate but shall include: 

Review turbine customer specification/drawings and powerhouse/unit requirements;

Work closely with hydraulic engineering department who will prepare the preliminary runner design, proposal CFD work and model test/hydraulic engineering estimates for execution;

Use layout tools select an existing reference turbine model, and make corrections based on project specific requirements;

Establish hydraulic characteristics and communicate information to proposal turbine mechanical and generator engineers;

For turbine upgrades evaluate the need to replace or modify existing water passage components;

Recommend turbine performance guarantees to be included in proposal;

Perform transient analysis;

Complete the internal risk review process for the layout inclusive of approvals from management (local and group);

Prepare hydraulic proposal write-up, performance hill chart diagrams and complete customer datasheets;

Prepare list of exceptions to be included within the proposal;

Perform turbine replacement studies and recommend hydraulic improvements.

The ideal candidate is an individual that understands the hydro turbine product and can influence proposal team members in generating the best overall turbine hydraulic technical solution for the client.

Candidate’s profile 

Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering, with specialization in fluid dynamics an asset;

Minimum of five (5) years of experience in hydro turbine hydraulic design or runner design or turbine CFD work;

Knowledge of technical aspects of hydro-mechanical projects;

Strong analytical skills;

Ability to handle multiple complex tasks daily;

Effective communication skills (oral & written) in a multi-stakeholder environment;

Strong computer skills inclusive of MS Office suite;

Fluency in French & English languages – desired;

Knowledge of Spanish an asset

Available for occasional travel
