Job Overview

Roles & Responsibilities

Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

Apply theory and principles of mechanical design to modify, test and develop mechanical components for products 

Review client and/or internal drawings and figures to apply existing technologies and adapt as required to meet to client’s specific needs

Draft detailed drawings for part fabrications by machine shops

Discuss changes in design, method of manufacture and assembly, and drafting techniques and procedures with staff and coordinate corrections

Set up and conduct tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate proposals for improving equipment performance

Deliver assistance to internal groups such as Production, Tool Support/Logistics and Operations by creating and maintaining technical documentation in support of existing and new processes.

 Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics 

Hold a Professional Engineering designation in Alberta, or if held in another Canadian jurisdiction be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in Alberta.

4-7 years of experience in a mechanical design role

Able to perform routine tasks with minimal supervision; but also, able to work effectively within the team dynamic as required

Ability to work collaboratively and accept feedback from internal groups

Proactive approach to addressing problems and ability to recommend solutions

Strong attention to detail required

Excellent written, verbal communication and comprehension skills

Familiarity with Auto-desk Inventor

Practical knowledge of 3D printing

Practical knowledge of machine tools (saw, mill, lathe, drill press, etc.)

Familiarity with FEA and CFD simulations

Flexibility to work different schedules as needed to meet strict deadlines

Travel as required throughout North America and Internationally for supporting field work, such as prototype and beta trials, field installations of monitoring equipment, etc. (approximately 10-25%)
