Job Overview

Roles & Responsibilities


Assist in the preparation of conceptual project designs, reports, and proposals for mechanical systems and equipment 

Perform detailed engineering calculations and preliminary analyses

Provide input to and/or maintains equipment lists and datasheets for mechanical equipment and components

Update progress reports, equipment cost estimations, and person-hour projections

Collaborate with vendors and subcontractors to interpret project specifications and other contract criteria

Review design documents of equipment manufacturers or subcontractors based on industry standards and provides recommendations

Assist in the checking and review of vendor supplied equipment designs and calculations, to ensure compliance with specifications and standards

Resolves problems using standard engineering procedures and previously developed methods

Assists in the preparation of forecasts, quantity take-offs, and change orders

Works with other technical staff to provide mechanical input on an assigned common task

May be involved in HAZOP studies.

Ability to travel to and work at site as needed, may be required

Skills and Qualifications:

Post-secondary education with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, with 1-4 years of relevant work experience 

Currently registered, or eligible for registration, as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC)

Interest in the oil and gas industry and work experience in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) is an asset

Work experience in the design or fabrication of reciprocating/turbine gas compressors, API storage tanks, API centrifugal pumps, or ASME pressure vessels is an asset

Good problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise independent judgment in analyzing information

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team

Self-motivated with the ability to complete tasks in a timely manner

Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy

Fundamental understanding and application of engineering codes and standards

Familiarity with engineering department procedures, design standards, and guidelines applicable to discipline

Proficient with MS Office suite
