Roles & Responsibilities

As a product designer at Vortex, you will: Work on various design mandates including new product design and product improvement for our existing standard products; Participate in defining the project charter for product development projects; Contribute to all phases of the product development process including ideation, concept design, technical development, and prototyping ; Contribute to the brand experience with the creation of industry leading products; Through customer empathy studies define product design criteria; Use hand sketches and computer generated models to express new product ideas; Collaborate with other team members including marketing, sales and engineering throughout the product development process; Oversee the testing of approved designs; Be responsible for the functionality, style and safety of each product you create; Remain current with market trends and relevant product regulations. The skills and competencies we are looking for are: Creativity with an ability to provide feasible and effective product designs; Curiosity with a desire for continuous professional development; Comfort with manufacturing methods and technologies related to steel, polymers and composite materials production; Understanding of human-centered design methodology; Strength in ideation, modeling and design research; A high degree of teamwork skills; Organisation skills with an ability to manage competing demands; Ability to sketch freehand; Ability to communicate and present ideas to different audiences; Proficiency in explaining ideas to people with varying levels of technical knowledge; Strong listening and questioning skills for discussing design briefs and understanding feedback from colleagues; 5 years of experience in industrial design in a manufacturing environment; A Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design; Proficiency in SolidWorks and Adobe Suite- Knowledge of AutoCAD an asset.
