The Canadian Red Cross Society, a not for profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is currently seeking a Senior Financial Analyst within our Finance team.

Reporting to the Manager, Finance, Community Health & Wellness, the incumbent is accountable for the financial direction, analysis and expertise to support the CRC’s domestic Community Health & Wellness programs as well as participate in the creation of new strategic growth opportunities to expand capacity and grow programs and services.


  • Provides cost modelling and business case development as required to inform internal management decisions and to support responses to proposals for funding.
  • Participates in strategic planning & development of budgets including forecasting.
  • Performs detailed analytical review of actual results against budget and forecasts, ensuring all significant variances are explored and explained.
  • Conducts and supports detailed financial analysis of the overall health sector and market conditions, competitors, environmental scans, and government direction.
  • Works closely and collaboratively with senior management of CRC Health programs in providing financial analysis to support recommendations for pursuing growth opportunities.
  • Develops reporting standards, emphasizing key financial and non-financial metrics to inform decision making
  • Works collaboratively with program staff to provide the financial analyses to support the value of a service, program, or clinical intervention and process improvement.
  • Provides statistical data and analyses this data in conjunction with the financial results associated with it to aid senior management in decision making.
  • Ensures all accounting procedures are compliant with Society policy, Canadian GAAP and government mandated guidelines.
  • Prepares and supports the development of program Financial Statements and Performance Reports for funders and for year-end audit.
  • Implements and manages internal control policies and procedures.
  • Employees and Volunteers at every level are responsible for safe work practices and to adhere to practices outlined in their applicable provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Supports other Red Cross initiatives, as needed, to provide for a coordinated team effort to meeting the needs of the most vulnerable in the community.


The minimum qualifications for this position are a university degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting or a related field, and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience, near completion or newly acquired professional accounting designation or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Other knowledge, skills and assets include:

  • Excellent budgeting and financial management skills.
  • Demonstrated project management, planning, and implementation skills to prioritize, set, communicate, monitor and meet objectives.
  • Proactive approach with strong critical thinking, business acumen and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, presentation, and influencing skills, in addition to excellent customer service orientation to ensure effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to explain complex issues in plain language to non-experts.
  • Superior organization and time management skills , with the ability to work effectively in a fast paced, global environment with multiple conflicting demands, ambiguity and changing circumstances and demonstrated positive experience working in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Demonstrated computer skills in MS Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Professionalism and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively within a team and build positive relationships as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take initiative as necessary.
  • Good judgment and ability to make recommendations and support them.
  • Attention to detail as well as strong analytical skills.
  • Experience working directly with managers to provide financial advice, including senior management.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and communicating financial policies, systems and processes.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.
  • Current First Aid & CPR certification is required.


The work is performed in an office environment that is clean and comfortable, located at the Simcoe Muskoka branch in Barrie. Hours of service are based on 35-hour work weeks, Monday to Friday.
