The successful applicant must be able to perform the following tasks:
Supervise crew of several certified Operating Engineers
Oversee and ensure the safe and proper operation/functioning of power plant boilers, air compressors, turbines, steam condensers, air dryers, turbo generators, fans, pumps, water filtration/supply/discharge systems and other related power plant services equipment in compliance with internal procedures and the Operating Engineers Act.
Monitor power services equipment instrumentation and adjust (using computerized and non-computerized control systems) various power services equipment control parameters (e.g. temperature, pressure, flow rates, water levels, additive concentrations) to ensure safe and efficient operation of equipment.
Complete all required log entries, records and reports accurately and on-time.
Check, inspect, monitor and maintain the operational integrity of power plant services equipment by troubleshooting and following up on all equipment failures in a timely manner; inclusive of minor repairs.
Collaborate with other departments as required to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Test samples and document water quality parameters; Manages feedstock by monitoring, transferring (between tanks), heating, and unloading feedstock as required.
Performs all required duties safely, efficiently and within required housekeeping, safety and environmental standards.
Respond to emergency situations, providing timely and appropriate resolution.
Utilize the proper personal protective equipment at all times.
Act as Chief Operating Engineer when required.
Improve Operating Engineers’ awareness, productivity, skill, morale, and commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction, through training, performance management, coaching, and personal involvement.
Perform other duties as assigned.
High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
1st or 2nd class Operating Engineer Certification.
Several years of experience as an Operating Engineer is an asset.
3 – 5 years of experience in a supervisory role is an asset.
Experience in a large-scale manufacturing and/or continuous process environment is an asset.
Experience with DCS control systems is an asset.
Strong analytical, organizational, problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Proven self-starter with the demonstrated ability to work well independently with little supervision and as part of a team.
Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
Able to work well under pressure while maintaining professionalism at all times.
Demonstrated commitment to safety and the environment.
Strong customer service orientation.
Practical computer skills: (MS Office, MS Project, SAP, etc.)
